As a member of the South Central Wisconsin Builders Association (SCWBA), I am blessed to be the sponsoring General Contractor of the 2024-25 Janesville High Schools Student Build home.

I, myself, went through the student build program years ago. Using the skills that I learned in the program, I entered the home building industry following high school, working with other builders until eventually establishing my own company.

For years, I have volunteered my time to work with the students on truss set day, bringing in my crew to guide the students and be sure the set is safe and successful. This year, I got to take the next step and lead the student build project. Helping the students, as they get hands on experience with all aspects of the home building process. It is definitely my priority, as the General Contractor this year, to be present as many days a week as I can. I am there working side by side with Mr. Joe Kruser (the class instruction and member of SCWBA).

As the General Contractor, my tasks include: designing a home that is suitable for the students to be able to complete as much of the work themselves as possible, procure and schedule all building materials,  provide the class with any assistance or manpower they need, schedule subcontractors for their parts in the build and work with them on what aspects of the project the student can assist with, keep the project on a consistent timeline (based on the needs of the class and SCWBA), and stay within the budget set at the beginning of the process.

Thankfully, I work very closely with my wife Rachael, and she plays a large roll in the process too. Rachael is handling all design aspects of the homes interior. Design is her passion: choosing cabinet designs, flooring, tile, paint colors, lighting and much more!

Together,  Rachael and I, have designed a home, that gives the students plenty of opportunity to gain valuable skills, as well as be a home that has beautiful design aspects that SCWBA can market to sell, proceeds which fund scholarships and next year’s build project.
